DOHA: Texas A&M at Qatar (TAMU-Q) has been awarded an Exceptional Proposal recognition by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) for a project that aims to improve solar power conversion.
The awarded proposal presented and led by Dr Haitham Abu-Rub (pictured), professor in electrical engineering at TAMU-Q, will attempt to solve problems with integrating up to one megawatt of power from photovoltaic power conversion systems into the national utility grid using a silicon carbide-based inverter. The project has been granted $4.6m, as power electronic converters are expected to play a major role in the conversion of alternative energy sources and the interfacing of this energy with power grids.
“The exceptional proposals awarded by QNRF are an extension of our flagship National Priorities Research Experience Programme, and are granted exclusively for research of exceptional scientific merit and benefit to Qatar,” said Dr Abdul Sattar Al Taie, executive director at QNRF. The Peninsula
