DOHA: Two of the 29 constituencies of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) will not witness any fight in the election on May 13 since they have lone contestants with no challengers.
And both constituencies (No. 1 which includes New Doha and No. 27 which has 10 areas, including Madinat Al Kaban) have sitting members as candidates.
In constituency No. 1, as reported by this newspaper earlier, sitting member and Vice-Chairman Jassem Al Malki is seeking re-election.
He remains unopposed.
In constituency No. 27, sitting member Rabia bin Hamad bin Ajlan had a walkover yesterday and technically won after his lone opponent withdrew his nomination.
Rashid bin Mubarak Al Kabi voluntarily withdrew his nomination from the constituency and paved the way for Rabia to have a walkover. Al Kabi’s is the first withdrawal of a contestant in the upcoming poll for the fifth term of the CMC.
Now only 130 candidates are left in the fray for the 29-seat CMC.
They include five women, one of them a sitting member (Sheikha Al Jefairi, from Old Airport Area).
In constituency No. 11, sitting member Saleh Jaber Al Marri faces a tough battle as he has 10 rivals challenging him.
Constituency No. 11 is a big ward and comprises areas like Ain Khalid, Industrial Area, Measimeer south and Abu Hamour west. The Peninsula
