London--Widnes Vikings head coach Denis Betts admitted his side had finally got their just rewards after toppling league leaders Leeds Rhinos 38-24.
Leeds went into the game knowing victory would take them four points clear at the top of the table.
But after both teams observed a minute's silence in memory of Keighley Cougars and Wales international Danny Jones who died from a heart attack last weekend, it was the hosts who came out on top.
Tries for Chris Jackson, Stefan Marsh, Joe Mellor, Danny Galea and Manase Manuokafoa put the Vikings 28-14 up.
And while Kallum Watkins' second try plus a Jimmy Keinhorst effort closed the gap, Betts' men came again with Chris Dean and Aaron Heremaia sealing the win.
"We were great, we played well in our last two games against St Helens and Warrington without any reward," said ex-Auckland Warriors second row Betts, who saw his side beat Leeds for the first time since their return to the Super League.
"There are a lot of tired bodies in the dressing room but happy players too.
"Patrick Ah Van was the difference with some really big plays. Kevin (Brown) was great with some clever passing.
"Phil Joseph had a couple of good stints off the bench and Joe Mellor's try showed we never give up.
"Lloyd White and Aaron Heremaia were excellent too but it's hard to pick out individuals."
