ISLAMABAD: The Chief Minister of the Indian state Bihar, Nitish Kumar, will be happy to hear it. Imran Khan, who has formed government in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, wants to model governance Nitish-style. “We want to de-politicise the bureaucracy and police like Bihar has done,” Khan told the Hindustan Times yesterday. Khan, who fell off a forklift a month ago while campaigning, is still laid up. In his first interview to an Indian publication after the accident. he said: “The threat from the Taliban is huge but we plan to make people the focus and I have asked the government to be transparent and focus on health and education like Nitish has done.” He said his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party will cooperate with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on India and the Taliban.
New speaker appointed
Islamabad: Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Leader of the Muslim League, was yeserday appointed as the new speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. The appointment was made by the new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who issued an official order.
Luxury cars to be banned
ISLAMABAD: The government has decided ban imports of luxury Mercedes cars in the next budget. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will announce it in the upcoming budget for the financial year 2013-14, which begins next month. In his tenure earlier, he had imposed a similar ban but during the tenure of Pervez Musharraf it was lifted and the chief ministers of the four provinces had imported Mercedes, paying no duty and taxes.
Punjab to have complaint units
LAHORE: The Punjab government is setting up complaint centres in all districts of the province, sources said, adding four will be set up in Lahore. Officials will be given three days to resolve complaints. The centres will have a computerised tracking system. Agencies
