DOHA: International ratings agencies are looking to open their local offices in Qatar. Qatar’s regulatory bodies are currently considering requests received from some of these agencies to operate in the country, Al Sharq reported.
“The concerned authorities are seriously considering the requests received from some agencies. Their presence in the local market will help deepen Qatar’s debt market. It would also support local companies to diversify their funding sources”, the daily quoted top government sources as saying.
The local operations of ratings agencies are expected to have a significant impact on the securities markets. They will help enhance the quality of the market’s disclosure practices. The regulatory bodies will review Qatar’s current practices related to the current disclosure of information about companies available to external auditors.        The Peninsula
