ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Pakistan yesterday signed an agreement to invest $245m in the country’s power distribution system, a statement said.
The agreement was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Division Nargis Sethi and Dr Werner E Liepach, ADB’s country director for Pakistan. “The investment will help upgrade Pakistan’s ageing power distribution infrastructure, thus allowing power to reach consumers,” said Liepach.
“The power projects, to be completed by June 2016, will augment the power network and improve the distribution system’s performance. This is critical to increase the overall energy efficiency and bridge the widening energy gap in Pakistan.”
“The success of the programme depends on effective and timely completion of the power distribution enhancement projects,” said Sethi.
“The project will add transformer capacity of 1,881 MVA, new transmission lines of 791 km and upgrade the existing transmission lines of 399 km, which will bring stability to the distribution network,” said Adnan Tareen,
