DOHA: Public transport company Mowasalat said yesterday that a fire that broke out in the Karwa bus depot in Abu Hamour on Tuesday evening destroyed 26 buses but has not affected the company’s regular services.
All the buses gutted in the fire were out of service since several months, the company said in a statement. None of the buses in operation was affected.
The cause of the fire was not known and is under investigation, said the company.
“The fire broke out at the parking ground where buses which are not in operation were parked. The damaged fleet were around 26 from old buses to be scrapped and were not operational since many months. Vehicles that are in operation are safe,” said the statement. The statement added that “this incident does not in any way affect regular operation” and “services continue without any interruption”. The fire broke out at around 9pm. The civil defence team reached the spot in 10 minutes and was able to control the blaze in less than one hour without any human loss, added the statement.The Peninsula
