MES organises intra school debate competition

Doha: The Department of Commerce (Economics) of MES Indian School organised an Intra school debate competition on September 4  for the Commerce and Humanities stream students of Classes XI and XII.

The event was conducted on the virtual platform on the topic ‘Privatization – a strategy for Economic growth in India’. 

Dr. Hameeda Kadar, Principal, MES Indian School, in her speech encouraged students to take part in the events which provide them with healthy platforms to develop their debating skills. 

Six students from each team debated in favour and against the motion. 

The highlight of the event was the rebuttal session in which participants displayed their questioning skills and confidence in answering questions posed by the opponents using facts and figures. 

The audience was mesmerised by the confidence exhibited by the debaters as they voiced their opinion. 

Zeenath Jalal, Economics Coordinator gave concluding remarks by highlighting the recent developments in privatisation.  

Johann George was chosen as the best speaker for the motion while Hiba Asif  was adjudged as the best speaker against the motion. 

The first runner-up (for) was awarded to Athulya and (against) Nafeesa. The second runner-up (for) was awarded to Grace Thomas and (against) Rene Mary Elwish. 

The moderator for the event was Sreeja Palapparambil from the Department of Commerce.  

The judges for the debate were Preethi Anto, Department of Social Science, Mary Milda Mendez and Siby Susan from the Department of Commerce. The timekeeper for the event was Nadeera Begum from the Department of Social Science.  

Deekshitha, Commerce Club Secretary, Girls’ section welcomed the gathering and Mishel, Commerce Club Secretary, Boys’ proposed a vote of thanks. 

The entire event went on very well with the support and intensive training given by the teachers of Economics from the Department of Commerce.
