Doha, Qatar: A new building of the Islamic Council in Gjilan, Kosovo, has been officially opened following a €2.4m support from Qatar, providing the city with a new five-storey centre for religious, educational, cultural and social activities.
Covering more than 5,000 square metres, the new facility is designed as an integrated centre to serve the local community and expand the Islamic Council’s programmes, while strengthening cooperation and ties between Qatar and Kosovo.
The inauguration brought together religious and official figures from Kosovo, representatives of local institutions in Gjilan and a Qatari delegation headed by Director of the Department of Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammed Jabr Al Mannai.
The delegation also included Assistant Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department Hassan Mohammed Al Obaidli, Head of the Department of Supervision at the Islamic Affairs Department Dr Jaber Salem Al Daya, and Adviser at the Minister’s Office Yousuf Mohammed Al Dehaimi. Ambassador of Qatar to Albania H E Jabor bin Ali Al Dosari also attended the ceremony.
The opening marks a new phase in Qatar’s support for Islamic institutions in Europe, with the project providing modern facilities capable of hosting religious education, community programmes, cultural activities and social initiatives.
Grand Mufti of Kosovo and President of the Islamic Community of Kosovo Sheikh Naim Ternava praised the new facility, stressing that the role of the Islamic Community extends beyond managing mosques to include religious, educational, cultural and social services.
He expressed appreciation to Qatar for its continued support for projects carried out by the Islamic Community in Kosovo, noting that such assistance had contributed to strengthening its institutional infrastructure and enhancing its ability to serve society.
