DOHA: The 18th meeting of the Ministers of Culture of GCC States recommended to set up an electronic link among the cultural institutions and national libraries of the member countries to cooperate with each others.
Saudi Arabia has been asked to help implement this project among the GCC states. The recommendation was made in the conclusion ceremony of the meeting held yesterday. Qatari delegation was led by Mubarak bin Nasser Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.
The ministers agreed that it was necessary that each GCC country provide a detailed report on the activities took place during 2011-2012, said Al Khalifa. The ministers recommended that their Cultural Committee should go through all the recommendations and observations made by member states about the activities held and choosing the topics to be forwarded to the culture undersecretaries after preparing the necessary recommendations.
The ministerial meeting emphasised the need to implement the activities and programmes approved in accordance with the schedule for the years 2013- 2016, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday.
Regarding cultural cooperation between the GCC countries and Turkey, the ministers recommended that the General Secretariat ask the Cultural Committee to prepare for the cultural days in Turkey. The Ministers welcomed the invitation extended to them by the UAE Minister of Culture and Youths to take part in a meeting in the UAE that will explain the experience it gained from organizing cultural days held in Turkey in 2012. As regards cultural cooperation between the GCC countries and the Association of South East Asian Countries Asean, emphasis was laid on the need to enhance joint cooperation and to pursue preparations to hold a joint meeting.
