Doha: The US Embassy in Qatar welcomed Zainab Al Suwaij to Doha to host workshops and trainings on leadership, advocacy, and peacebuilding.
Al Suwaij is the co-founder and executive director of the American Islamic Congress (AIC), an organisation founded to foster tolerance and promote civil society and civil rights.
Al Suwaij was in Qatar to collaborate with the Ministry of Sport and Youth on Al Adaam (Youth Ambassadors) programme and participate in multiple discussions with schools and youth groups on empowering women and youth to be successful leaders and entrepreneurs.
Al Suwaij conducted a workshop for Durham British School for Girls’ senior class and staff members, followed by a workshop at the Community College of Qatar, recently. Both workshops addressed tools and mechanisms for developing leadership skills, fostering self-confidence, and raising awareness about community engagements. Al Suwaij concluded the day with a panel discussion on empowering women to be leaders entitled “Women on the Rise:
Leadership and Impact” in collaboration with the Qatar Women Engineers Association and Texas A&M University Qatar.
The panel highlighted the impact of women leaders on community development and featured prominent Qatari women leaders including Saba Al Fadala, Executive Director of the Social Development Center Nama, and Layla Jassem, Design Manager at Ashghal.
Al Suwaij kicked off a three-day workshop with the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s Al Adaam (Youth Ambassadors) programme. Al Adaam is an annual leadership training conducted by the Ministry with the purpose of developing young Qataris to become “National Ambassadors” with the ability to represent Qatar in international conferences and events. The US Embassy in Qatar will continue to celebrate the strong US-Qatar bilateral relationship through a multitude of events and US speaker programs throughout 2022.
