DOHA: The Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) urged human rights organisations and authorities concerned to focus on freedom of speech to protect the rights of all sections of the society.
“Freedom of speech is a main source of all human rights, the voices of all sections of the community, including women, youth, minorities, disabled, citizens, poor and marginalised classes who should be included in decision-making and policy-making,” said Jan Keulen, Director of DCMF.
He was speaking at a human rights event ‘My Voice Counts’ organised by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in collaboration with the United Nations Human Rights Training Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region to mark the ‘Human Rights Day yesterday.
“The demand to protect human rights is like freedom of speech. The right to peaceful assembly, to form organisations and to participate in the government has changed the scene of the Arab world over the last two years,” said Keulen.
It was a historical moment when millions of people took to the streets demanding changes, he said, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported
