Indian Women’s Association celebrated International Women’s Day at Wyndham Grand Regency. The chief guest at the programme was chief patron Chhaya Arora, wife of Indian Ambassador Sanjeev Arora. Also in attendance were Kareem Abdulla, President  Indian Charity Benevolent Fund, Alexie Muzami, a distinguished Toastmaster speaker and training consultant, Resha Udenia, wife of Dinesh Udenia, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy, and Sangeetha Seetharaman, wife of Doha Bank CEO Seetharaman.
The event started with a minute’s silent prayer to pay homage to the victims of the explosion in Doha and a submarine accident in India.
To mark the occasion, IWA patron Arora presented a cheque to Abdulla as IWA’s contribution towards ICBF funds. Thereafter, Abdulla spoke about the social service done by ICBF and reminded the audience that as expatriates helping out wherever possible was the need of the hour.
This was followed by a speech by Muzami, who reminded every woman in the room about the importance of the role of women in society.
IWA members also paid farewell to Rekha Dani, longtime member and past president of IWA.
During the event, prizes were distributed to the winners of the article writing contest on the topic ‘Role of Women in Society’, which was conducted on account of International Women’s Day. Harsha Mahtani was the second runner-up, Chandrani Ghosh the runner-up and Nirmala Raghuraman the winner.
A quiz on famous women achievers of our times was organised by Sunita Chaturvedi. This was followed by a raffle and dinner before the event came to a close.
