QU Cultural Village 2014 features 33 booths representing 21 countries

Qatar University’s Cultural Village 2014 showcased the various nationalities represented at the institution and highlighted the spirit of mutual respect and goodwill among them, organisers said. 
In its eighth instalment, the event organised by the institution’s Student Activities Department brought students together to present the culture and heritage of their countries and become acquainted with those of their colleagues.
Thirty-three booths representing 21 countries featured at the event, which was attended by the Minister for Youth and Sport, H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali, diplomatic representatives from Bahrain, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, The Philippines, and Yemen, QU leaders, staff, faculty, and members of the wider community.
Department head Al Jazzi Al Fetais said:  “What a wealth of talent and creativity on display in this event!  The students never fail to impress us all with their proud rendering of the culture and heritage of their countries.  The Village is a fitting showcase of the cultural diversity at QU and enhances the spirit of connectedness among us all. It is also an invaluable opportunity for the students to demonstrate their skills in organisation, teamwork, and communication.”
The final day of the four-day event saw the crowning of winners of the Best Booth prize: Palestine (women), Saudi Arabia (men).  The second-place winners were Qatar (women) and Bahrain (men), and the third placed was  Sudan (women and men).  
Winners of the Best Cultural Performance prize were Qatar, Oman and Palestine (women) and Egypt, Bahrain and Syria (men). Prizes were distributed by Vodafone Qatar External Relations head Mohammed Al Yami. 
“We’re very proud to support Qatar University’s Cultural Village.  Vodafone is strongly committed to the success of these initiatives that aim at enriching cultural experiences from around the world, particularly for the youth. It is a great opportunity to introduce students to various cultural backgrounds and bridge the way for a productive dialogue that is truly enlightening,” Al Yami said.
The Peninsula
