A member of the Senate minority bloc said yesterday that President Aquino’s practice of signing “ad interim appointments” is fraught with danger, especially when the appointee will head an institution that requires political independence.
Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said the assumption of office of ad interim appointees presents a situation where checks and balances are circumvented.
“Why should PNoy opt for ad interim appointments rather than go through the regular appointment process? Is it because an ad interim appointee can immediately exercise the functions of his office and therefore it becomes a way to facilitate personal political objectives?” he asked.
