DOHA: Several members of Central Municipal Council (CMC) have criticised the decision of authorities to allot spaces at the proposed Al Furjan project only to companies. They felt that Qatari individuals are more deserving to hire shops at the project than companies.
“The shops should be allotted to citizens, especially those with limited income and retirees as well as others who come under the purview of the social security scheme,” Al Sharq quoted Mohamad Zafir Al Hajri, CMC member, as saying yesterday.
“Companies won’t need such shops. They are already running outlets in other places. Citizens have full right to hire these outlets, especially those living in the respective localities,” he added.
He hoped that citizens would be allowed to register for the draw to select beneficiaries.
And the beneficiaries should be given a freehand on the shops and should be allowed to sublet them to companies, he added.
For instance, the shops should be let out to citizens at a monthly rent of QR4,000 and they can sublet them to companies at QR6,000.
“We hoped that citizens would get a major share from allotments of Al Furjan shops since they are closely connected with these outlets built in their areas,” said another CMC member, Mohamad Saleh Al Khayarin.
“Priority should be given to citizens in the allotment of the shops, especially those living in the respective areas, but we are surprised to see that only companies have been allowed to apply,” he added. He hoped that the project would have a positive impact on the real estate market and could lead to a decline in the prices of commodities.
