Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, through a team of divers from the Marine Protection Department, conducted a comprehensive cleanup campaign at one of the hiraat (reefs) located west of Halul Island.

The campaign was organised in celebration of World Oceans Day and as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and preserve biodiversity.

The campaign resulted in the removal of several illegal fishing tools that were found stuck at a depth of 15 metres. These included fishing nets and traps, which pose a threat to marine life and disrupt the ecological balance in the area.

The Ministry affirmed its continued commitment to intensifying environmental monitoring efforts and taking all necessary measures to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainability of its natural resources, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals — particularly those related to the conservation of aquatic and marine ecosystems.
