DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will host its first awareness programme on the ‘Organ donation campaign’ tomorrow at the City Centre.
The campaign will focus on social and medical benefits of organ donation, launching its organ donation promotion campaign.
The event held as a part of the Ramadan campaign will see an information booth set up staffed by experts from the Qatar Organ Donation Center and other HMC volunteers.
They will educate people about organ donation and how to register as a donor. They will also be talking about transplantation and answering any questions people may have.
An organ transplant is a life-saving procedure for someone who has an organ that is failing. It can also significantly improve quality of life for someone with chronic health problems.
These life saving organs come from deceased donors, who have pledged during their life to give their organs to someone in need. It is also possible to donate a kidney or part of the liver while you are alive.
Organs and tissue that can be donated include: heart, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines and corneas.
In Qatar the major need has been for kidney transplants, mainly because of the increasing incidence of diabetic patients who develop kidney failure and are on dialyses and also the increase in hypertensive patients.
The event will begin at 9:00pm at the City Center’s ground floor, near the office of Emirates exchange.
