MANILA: Philippine share prices rose 2.60 per cent on Friday, tracking gains on Wall Street after the Federal Reserve said it would continue to support the recovering US economy.

The 30-share composite index of the Philippine Stock Exchange added 166.85 points to finish at 6,574.21.

A total of 1.44 billion shares worth 7.79 billion pesos or 181 million dollars were traded.

Gainers led losers 111 to 50, while 39 issues were unchanged, dpa reported.

Traders said market sentiment was boosted by Wall Street's 169-point increase overnight and Fed chairman Ben Bernanke's statement that the US economy would need "highly accommodative monetary policy for the foreseeable future." (QNA)
