Manila: Typhoon Huaning, moving in a west northwestward direction, increased its speed to 185kmph yesterday, the Philippines Atmosphere, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday. The eye of Huaning was located 750km east northeast of Itbayat municipality in Batanes province. It continued to move west northwest at 20kmph as it passed above Northern Luzon before heading to Taiwan, where it was expected to make landfall. Itbayat is about 200km from the southernmost tip of Taiwan. Monsoon rains are expected in the western sections of Visayas and Luzon, including Metro Manila, from Friday afternoon until tomorrow. The typhoon is expected to be at about 80km northwest of Taiwan by tomorrow.
3 kidnappers killed in Davao
DAVAO CITY: Three kidnappers of a Filipino-Chinese trader died in yesterday’s shootout in Davao City. Police rescued Sally Chua who was abducted last week. Police said the suspects were in two vehicles and accompanied Chua as she was to withdraw some P100m ($2.325m) at a local bank along Recto Avenue.
Top Cebu drug suspect held
MANILA: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday said it had arrested the “Number 3” man of a notorious drug group in Cebu province. Police identified him as Erlando Bonghanoy Oyao, 56, from Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City. Oyao was on the target list and is believed to be a member of the Winnie delos Santos cartel. agencies
