Jakarta: The Indonesian government has urged beef importers to accelerate their import realization to help curb rising domestic prices, the country's Trade Minister Budi Santoso said here Wednesday.

Official data showed that the national average beef price has recently exceeded the government's reference selling price, Santoso said, noting that beef import realization remains low.

The importers have been asked to immediately realize their imports, as they have already received their quotas, Santoso told reporters, adding that the ministry is pushing companies to identify operational bottlenecks and source from overseas suppliers offering more competitive prices.

The ministry said it has held initial discussions with importers and plans to conduct further meetings in the coming days to address the low realization rate and stabilize the domestic market.
