ISLAMABAD: The re-organisation of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is under way and senior party leader Aitzaz Ahsan is being tipped as the new secretary general of PPP in place of Sardar Latif Khosa.

According to sources an announcement in this regard will be made soon. They said the decision was taken in the first meeting of the PPP leaders presided over by the PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore at Bilawal House on Sunday night after relinquishing the office of the president of Pakistan. Besides appointment of Aitzaz Ahsan, a decision has also been taken to replace Punjab PPP president Manzoor Wattoo and the name of Rana Farooq Saeed is being considered for the post.

The re-organisation of PPP in Khyber-Puktoonkhwa and Balochistan will also be done while in Sindh the government and party offices will be separated.

As part of the re-organisation a monitoring cell will be established to review the performance of the PPP chapters in all the provinces as well as its legislators in the National Assembly, Senate and in the provincial assemblies and it will report directly to co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

Sources said the purpose of selecting Lahore as the base camp is to focus on Punjab, where the PPP lost not only in the southern Punjab but also in the rural areas of the province.

“For 15 days Asif Ali Zardari will hold extensive meetings with the PPP leaders of Punjab as well as PPP candidates who lost in Punjab to decide the future line of action,” a senior leader of the PPP said.

Though a report has already been given to co-chairman PPP about the reasons of PPP?s defeat in Punjab but he wants to hear it directly from the candidates, sources in the PPP said.
