MANILA: Three communist rebels, including an official of the New People’s Army (NPA), had been arrested by security forces in Sagada, Mountain Province, the military said yesterday.
Captain Gina Daet, spokesperson of the Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command, said the insurgents were apprehended in Sitio Mabbay in Barangay Poblacion last Monday at about 5pm.
One of the rebels arrested was identified as Lolita Longuibis, the finance and logistics officer of a local guerrilla unit based in the Mountain Province.
Prisoner held for selling drug
KIDAPAWAN CITY: Security personnel of the North Cotabato provincial jail here on Tuesday seized P80,000 ($1,800) worth of shabu from an inmate secretly selling drugs inside the facility.
Senior Jail Officer Edwin Paalisbo, who was one of the guards that discovered the drug trafficking activities of inmate Jason James Arnaiz, said they learned of illegal activity from informants, among them prisoners he tried to lure into buying shabu.
Jail guards on duty cuffed the suspect while in the act of receiving a mysterious package containing shabu hidden in individual wrappers of chocolate bars, sent by his sister, Jennifer, who resides in Iligan City.
Three brothers gunned down
SAN FERNANDO: Police are now hunting down the triggerman in the killing of three brothers and wounding of two of their relatives in front of their house in Sta Ana town this province last Saturday night. Senior Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, Pampanga police director, said brothers Rodel, Angelito and Pedro Romero were gunned down while having a drinking spree in front of their house in Barangay Sta Maria.
