DOHA: FIA vice-president Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah (pictured) will leave for Beijing today to attend the federation’s three-day General Assembly meeting.
More than 230 members of various unions from all over the world will join FIA President John Todt at the meeting.
Many issues will be discussed at the meeting, including a comprehensive evaluation of all the championships organised during the season under the supervision of FIA.
Some suggestions of certain members regarding some regulatory rules and laws of the sport will also be debated. The overall development of the sport will also be discussed besides the race calendars for the 2015 season.
After the FIA meetings, Al Attiyah will immediately fly to Rome where he will be the guest of FIM Europe, headed by Wolfgang Srb.
Al Attiyah and Wolfgang have a special bond as Al Attiyah was one of the supporters of the Austrian during the presidency elections of the European Union in last July in Poland.
Al Attiyah, who also occupies the position of deputy head of the FIM, will discuss reinforcing the relations between the Asian and European Union through establishing partnership and co-operation protocol between the two continents.
The Qatari will also discuss the arrangements regarding the next FIM elections, which will be in Spain next November.
Al Attiyah will be a candidate for the same position he currently occupies. However, many voices were raised to be candidate for the position of the head of FIM, he preferred to stay in his same position due to the other tasks and responsibilities he is currently in charge of, and the claimed position requires full time management.
The next FIM election is expected to be different to the elections that took place in Macau four years ago.
Al Attiyah will visit San Marino, Italy, to follow the fortunes of the QMMF Racing Team in Moto 2. Australian rider Antony West and Spanish rider Roman Ramos will participate in the 13th round of the world championship later next week.
