Doha: As part of the Qatar-USA years of culture programme, new public artwork has been added to the country's cultural landscape.

Designed by the world-renowned contemporary American sculptor Bruce Nauman, the 'Untitled (Trench, Shafts, Pit, Tunnel and Chamber)' has been installed at Msheireb Doha Downtown.
Chairperson of Qatar Museums H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on her social media accounts said that this was created as part of a series of works made by the artist in the late 70’s.

The sculpture consists of two identical Corten steel shapes with concrete bases that mirror each other: the "trench" is the circular ring at the top of one shape, the "tunnel" is the circular ring on the bottom of the other, the "pit" is the triangular form opened to the sky; and the "chamber" is the triangular form pointing to the sky. Diagonal "shafts" connect the trench to the chamber, the tunnel to the "pit".

She further added that there will be more artworks added across Qatar as part of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture and in preparation for Qatar-USA 50 years of bilateral relations next year.
Qatar had recently unveiled another public art at Hamad International Airport called the Falcon by Tom Claassen. The Falcon sits on a ledge at the airport, exuding royalty with its gold finish.
