Villaggio fire case hearing postponed to October 23

DOHA: Hearing in the Villaggio Mall fire case was adjourned by a lower criminal court yesterday to October 23 as two of the accused could not be present.

One of the two accused is a diplomat and is based in a European country while the second accused is his wife, sources in legal circles told this newspaper yesterday.

This is the second time hearing in the case has been put off due to the absence of two of the many accused. The court had initially fixed the date for the trial to begin on September 6.

The hearing was adjourned to October 11 due to the absence of two accused, and now put off to October 23. Summons are to be sent to the accused duo. “We hope that the trial would surely take off on October 23,” a lawyer not wishing to be named said.

Another lawyer said that since this is a very serious and sensitive case the court is making sure that all accused are present at the first hearing. The Peninsula
