Condolences sent to Saudi King

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to the Custodian of the Two Holly Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia following the death of Princess Mashael bint Mohammed bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable.
Emir sends message to Djibouti President
Djibouti: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent a written message to the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, on relations and issues of joint interest. Qatari Ambassador Jassim Jaber Jassim Sorour presented the message to the president during a meeting at the presidential palace yesterday.
FM receives Kazakh envoy’s credentials
Doha: The Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah yesterday received a copy of the credentials of Oscar Shawkybayev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Qatar.  Al Attiyah wished the envoy success in his mission and relations between both countries further progress and prosperity.
Qatar welcomes new Yemen govt
Doha: Qatar has welcomed the formation of a new government in Yemen under the leadership of Khaled Bahah, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry hoped the new government will constitute a step towards preserving Yemen’s unity, stability and prosperity amid challenges. It stressed cooperation among all factions to work on implementing the peace and national partnership agreement and the outcomes of the GCC initiative to achieve the Yemeni people’s aspirations. The ministry reiterated Qatar’s keenness to support Yemen and its people.

London: Qatari Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, Yousef bin Ali Al Khater, yesterday met the Marshall of the Diplomatic Corps, Alistair Harrison, and reviewed relations and issues of common concern.
QU in deal to teach Korean language
DOHA: A Korean language teaching programme will begin at the Qatar University (QU) in the next academic year.
It follows an agreement signed between QU and Korea Foundation. It was inked by QU President, Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, and Korea Foundation President, Dr Hyun Seok Yu, in Korea, in the presence of QU College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Dr Eiman Mustafawi, Associate Dean, Outreach and Engagement, Dr Fatma Al Sowaidi, and QU Gulf Studies Center Director, Dr Abdullah Baabood.
The deal will reinforce cooperation to promote the Korean language at QU.
QU will promote and develop Korean language courses within its curricula for students who desire to learn the language and be oriented on the culture.
Korea Foundation will appoint visiting professors to teach the language based on QU’s accreditation requirements.
Prof Al Misnad said, “The deal highlights the spirit of collaboration which contributes to QU’s ability to graduate well-rounded individuals, prepared to compete at the highest level in a globalised labour market. “We are pleased to partner with Korea Foundation in the programme which is a new milestone in the development of the links between Qatar and Korea in the field of education.”
