DOHA: The French Ambassador to Qatar, Eric Chevallier, conferred Legion of Honour (Chevalier) on Saud Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Qatari Ambassador to Russia.
The Legion of Honour, established by Napoleon Bonaparte on 19 May 1802, is the highest decoration in France and divided into Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer), and Grand Croix (Grand Cross).
The ceremony was attended by Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Assistant to the Foreign Minister and Dr Abdulla Al Mal, Adviser to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Ibrahim Yousuf Fakhru, Head of Protocol Department at the Ministry of Interior, and other officials.
Chevallier said relations between Qatar and France are strong and both countries are working together on the issues of peace and security. He said he is conferring the honour first time on any Qatari citizen and that it is conferred on a citizen of a friendly country. The Peninsula
