One of the world’s biggest facilities for scouts ready

DOHA: Qatar will soon have a state-of- the-art camping facility for scouts, which is described as one of the biggest such facility in the world.
The Public Works Authority — Ashghal — has completed the Scouts Overland Camp for the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association project in Al Mazrouaa. The facility is constructed at a cost of QR86m.
Ashghal also completed work on the association’s headquarters in Ain Khaled at a cost of approximately QR31m.
The Qatar Scouts and Guides Association project commenced in the last quarter of 2012 and was implemented by Al Balagh Trading and Contracting. 
The project includes construction and maintenance of an overland camp facility at Al Mazroua area, located around 30km from Doha, off Al Shamal Road. 
With a total area of approximately 400,000sqm and built-up area of approximately 11,500sqm, the camp is considered one of the world’s biggest scouts camping facilities, with various facilities in one place, Ashghal said yesterday.
The project aims to provide the possibility of organising international and regional scout’s events, and to encourage camping during vocational training periods, through providing all necessary facilities to the scouts. 
It also aims at promoting social communication and environmental awareness among students.
The facility includes an administration building, seminar complex, hostel, entertainment and dining facilities, Show yard (amphitheatre), guardhouse, storage buildings, service blocks, besides well-lit camping areas for 251 tents, two football fields, 71 shaded car parking, 20 bus parking, roads, pavements, walkways and landscaping.
The headquarters of the Qatar Scouts & Guides Association comprises a three-story main building with administrative offices, multi-functional areas and a hostel for visitors. 
The project also includes ancillary services buildings, car-parks and playgrounds.
