DOHA: The Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme will sponsor the establishment of three Toastmasters clubs in the northern region of the country.
Activities will help develop and train future public speakers and empower members of local communities to be effective speakers, community leaders and fast thinkers.
The clubs will bring benefits of Toastmasters to the communities served by the programme, providing learn-by-doing workshops for local communities to improve and perfect speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere.
Toastmasters International has helped hundreds of thousands of its members improve speaking and leadership skills by attending one of 14,350 clubs in 122 countries in which it operates. Skills acquired through Toastmasters will not only allow people in the northern area to be heard, but also to reshape boundaries and social and cultural norms that underpin knowledge and power relations, which contribute to empowerment, and achieve sustainable economic and social change.
One of the objectives of the clubs is to train and coach founding members to start two gavel clubs for girls and boys and one adults’ club to encourage participation of diverse groups.
“Toastmasters provides tools to develop effective communicators across sectors and communities, and we are pleased to announce our cooperation with them,” said Moza Al Mohannadi, Community Liaison Lead, Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme.
“Improving communication can provide opportunities for community members to reconfigure relationships with the government, donors, and the civil society.
“It also helps them reach out to their communities and better understand their members’ needs and concerns which is critical for the development and prosperity of communities. Outreaching community is one of our main programmes which help people. In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, Toastmasters fraternity in Qatar is committed to social and human development of Qatari. Two Gavels and one youth clubs will focus for preparing Qatar’s youth and students to take on challenges and become better communicators and leaders, said Nasimudheen Abdul Hameed, Division E Governor and Chairman of the project.
