DOHA: Action on Diabetes (AOD), a unique public-private partnership, is launching its second Diabetes awareness and screening campaign today at Katara Cultural Village.
The four-day campaign is free and open to the public and promises a fun day out for families as well as providing the opportunity to learn more about diabetes, the risk factors and how to prevent the disease. The event will run every day until Saturday from 5pm to 9pm.
The programme includes free diabetes testing and advice by professional staff from the Qatar Diabetes Association and Hamad Hospital; live cooking demonstrations from locally renowned Chef Zarmig Halladjian showcasing healthy menus that are easy to prepare and can help to reduce the risk of getting diabetes; fun exercises for all the family showing how small changes and exercises can make a big difference to health, reducing the risk of getting diabetes; and a Kids Zone featuring Wii games and live work-outs shows on stage.
The campaign is being organised by Action on Diabetes, a programme designed to help deliver the vision of Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for a healthy Qatar.
The initiative is a partnership between Maersk Oil Qatar, the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Diabetes Association, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Novo Nordisk, the world’s leading provider of diabetes care. For more information visit www.action-on-diabetes.qa
