DOHA: To help patients at Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) hospitals, employees at the Patient Accounting Section of the Finance Department recently participated in a blood donation campaign.
Talib Al Khatairi, Head of the section, said they are planning to hold such campaigns on an annual basis to continue supporting the needs of patients.
“I think all departments at HMC should assign one day for donating blood to the Blood Donor Centre; together we can make a huge difference to the lives of patients requiring blood for survival.
“Many participants donated blood for the first time and this campaign will motivate them to support future ones as well,” Al Khatairi added.
Over 40 employees from the section took part in the campaign. An average of 460ml of blood was collected from each donor.
The Coordinator for Donor’s Affairs at the centre, Sadika Al Mahmoudi, said the blood collected from employees will help provide life-saving support to patients at HMC hospitals.
“This collection is also significant for us to maintain our minimum stock at our blood bank,” said Mahmoudi.
Any healthy adult aged 18 and above can donate an average of 460ml of blood during a typical donation.
A gap of two months is required between donations at the centre and donations are welcome all year round.
Donations can be made at the centre on HMC premises, and the entire process from registration, completion of medical questionnaire, check-up, donation and post-donation process normally takes 20 to 25 minutes.
The Center can be contacted on 44391081 or 44391082.
