Doha: Ooredoo’s new Chief Business Officer, Sheikh Nasser Hamad Nasser Al Thani, took part in the 2014 UN Forum on Business and Human Rights at the Palais des Nations, Geneva.
The three-day global forum, the biggest annual event to examine business and human rights, received more than 1,500 participants from over 100 countries.
Sheikh Nasser showcased the importance of business and human rights as a top priority for the company at the Ooredoo booth, attended by delegates.
“As a community-focused company, Ooredoo is guided by its vision of enriching people’s lives. We believe that to create an efficient and happy work environment you need to build trust and loyalty. This is why we have a non-discriminatory recruitment policy and hire candidates based on competence and potential and pay based on experience and performance.”
Participating business leaders, government representatives, NGOs and other civil society groups represented the manufacturing, ICT, mining, oil and energy, agribusiness, and banking and finance sectors.
Faisal bin Abdulla Al Henzab, Qatar’s Representative to the UN Office, said: “I think that a company as crucial to Qatar as Ooredoo, talking honestly and openly about its employment protocols and goals, has helped show the world our country’s commitment to business and human rights.”
The forum, in third year, provides an opportunity to assess progress in implementation of UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights — the first authoritative global framework to address the impact of business on human rights — endorsed in 2011.
This is the latest in a series of high-profile CSR event attendances for Ooredoo as the company pushes to enrich the lives of its customers and communities in Qatar.
