DOHA: Around 2,000 aspirants have registered for the second edition of Be Fit, a year-long weight loss programme organised by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and wellness solutions provider VLCC.
Registration for the year-long programme was held on National Sport Day at QOC Sport Zone. The first edition witnessed 775 participants.
The success of the inaugural edition has motivated QOC to up the stakes for the 2014 initiative, with prize money doubled to QR250,000 for the biggest losers.
For the inaugural Be Fit program, Emad Jamil won the top prize of QR100,000 for losing an impressive 49.6kg, while Salwa Mahmoud took away QR25,000 as the runner-up for reducing her weight by 43kg through following a year-long weight management regimen recommended by VLCC.
“2013 has been the most exciting year of my life. Losing 50kg seemed unimaginable to begin with, but the feat has made me realize that it is possible to achieve one’s dreams with sustained effort and determination no matter what the odds. Dropping so much weight has not only made me look good and feel healthier, it has also inspired my family and me to make lasting lifestyle changes,” said Jamil.
Aimed at tackling the weighty issue of obesity and related complications that have become a major cause of concern in the Middle East, Be Fit is a year-long program that motivates people in Qatar to lose weight through adopting a healthier diet plan and an active lifestyle.
Participants of the Be Fit program commit themselves to achieving their optimum weight in the span of a year, with the support and guidance of VLCC’s panel of experts including doctors and nutritionists.
Along with a combined initial investment of QR1m made by QOC and VLCC, Be Fit also gained from the close involvement of VLCC through all stages of the program. Be Fit 2013 participants were offered complimentary vouchers worth QR300 each, which could be redeemed for free consultations and diet plans from VLCC’s panel of experts.
Monthly updates through phone calls and text messages kept the contestants informed of their progress while quarterly meetings co-anchored by QOC helped them stay focused on their goals. The Peninsula
