DOHA: A high-level delegation from International Labour Organisation (ILO) has expressed satisfaction with Qatar’s sponsorship change initiative for aggrieved low-income workers.
Colonel Saad Salem Al Dosri, Deputy Head, Human Rights Department, Ministry of Interior, told Al Sharq that the delegation also expressed satisfaction with related procedures.
The team from the Geneva-based ILO visited Qatar last week and officials from the department briefed them on the process of the ministry transferring workers’ sponsorship.
The delegation was keen to know how the department gets sponsorship-related complaints and how quickly it transfers workers’ sponsorship — whether temporarily or on a permanent basis.
The team was headed by Cleopatra Dombia-Henry, from International Labour Standards and included Deepa Rishikesh, from an ILO department devoted to combating child labour and forced labour.
Officials from the Human Rights Department received the delegation and explained in detail how it handles workers’ complaints and the process involved in redressing their grievances.
