DOHA: Many government entities and private establishments organised activities to mark the fourth National Sport Day.
Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) held a walkathon on the Pearl-Qatar Island, in cooperation with United Development Company.
Over 1,000 people joined the walk, led by QTA Chairman, Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, along with other officials and representatives from the tourism sector and media.
Staff and their families from Qatar Airways Group celebrated the day at Al Sadd Sports Club.
Over 2,000 adults and 800 children from Qatar Airways, Hamad International Airport, Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Airways Cargo, Qatar Aircraft Catering Company, Qatar Aviation Services and Qatar Amiri Flight took part in activities, including football, volleyball, basketball and cricket.
Children enjoyed football training sessions and played in bouncy castles. Cricket was again the most popular activity, attracting lots of players and spectators.
T-shirts and caps were given to participants upon arrival and lunch and refreshments were distributed during the day.
Celebrations ended with an award ceremony, with winners receiving trophies and medals for first and second places.
Muntajat, Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company, organised an American Football-themed day in collaboration with Qatar Flag Football Club ‘Mad Camels’ at Aspire Park. Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada was present. Muntajat employees and the Qatar Flag Football team took part.
Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) took part in activities organised by the Ministry of Transport in Al Khor.
Mowasalat, Qatar Ports Management Company, Civil Aviation Authority and Qatar Aeronautical College took part.
Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) employees participated in the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) marathon. QIC collaborated with Huawei to offer wearable TalkBand B1 devices to the winners and runners-up.
Meanwhile, Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), in cooperation with Police Sports Federation, organised activities such as volleyball, soccer, race, tug-of-war and awareness sessions on the role of sports in the prevention of diseases such as cancer.
Barwa Bank marked the day by participating in the 3km run organised by QCB and a football tournament launched last month which saw the participation of several teams from staff and management.
The German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK) and Qatar Germany Partnership (QGP) organised the second Edition of Football Tournament 2015 featuring 16 teams with 120 players.
Sheikh Nasser bin Nawaf Al Thani representing NBK, Sheikh Faleh bin Nawaf Al Thani representing Mercedes Benz, Karim Shamma, CEO, Doha Festival City, and Nasr Al Majed representing Al Majed Group were present.
Staff of Qatar Financial Markets Authority marked the day by taking part in the 3km marathon on the Corniche, organised by Qatar Central Bank for all banks and financial institutions in the state.
Qatar Stock Exchange, meanwhile, held activities at Aspire Zone for its staff and their families. This year’s celebration featured football matches, table tennis competitions, kite-flying and children’s sport and recreational activities.
QDVC joined in national celebrations with a corporate event in Lusail which included football, basketball, cricket tournaments, a 4km mountain bike race, the French game petanque, face and painting and henna.
Maersk Oil Qatar and its Action on Diabetes (AOD) partners were at Aspire Park to celebrate the day. Over 1,000 Maersk Oil Qatar staff, their families and members of the public took part in fitness activities, promoting healthy living and regular exercise while learning about diabetes.
Events were organised in cooperation with AOD partners Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Diabetes Association, Primary Health Care Corporation and Novo Nordisk.

Scores of people participated in events hosted by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) at a tent in Aspire Zone.
Held in partnership with HMC and Aspire Zone for the third consecutive year, the events saw a team of dietitians giving tips to visitors on a healthy lifestyle at home and office.
Petrofac Qatar Group of Companies held programmes at Al Jazeera Academy. Over 500 employees and their families took part in football, volleyball, badminton, handball, dart and ‘Inter Group Cricket & Football Tournament’, among others.
