DOHA: Katara, the Cultural Village, recently staged a number of events that were well received by the Doha audience, including the live HD screening of Parcifal starring Jonas Kaufmann, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra performances of the Brahms Symphonies and the spectacular show of Opera Emotions.

Organised in partnership with the Swiss Embassy, Opera Emotions drew crowds of people who enjoyed the lyric concert performed by Italian artists from la Scala de Milan and a Swiss soprano. Whilst hundreds gathered to watch the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra perform the Brahms Symphonies, opera lovers took the opportunity to watch the live HD screening of Parcifal.

Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, said: “This week we saw many visitors attending various events at Katara, from exhibitions to operas. We continue to provide high class events which contribute to our long-term goal of educating and entertaining whilst building cultural bridges. We look forward to welcoming guests this week to many events and exhibitions we have on this week. I would like to extend my gratitude to all of those who helped make each of these events a success.”

This week Katara presents Designed to Win, an exhibition in collaboration with the Design Museum in London which opens tomorrow at Building 3, Katara and runs until June 23. The exhibition celebrates how design has shaped the sporting world, pushing the limits of human endeavour to achieve records and victories. The exhibition is part of Qatar UK 2013, an initiative to forge new partnerships between Qatar and the United Kingdom in the fields of art, culture, education, sport and science.
