Doha: Price war has been intensified between Ooredoo and Vodafone with both companies announcing new calling rates on the same day.

While Ooredoo is offering 30 minutes of free local or international calling rates starting today, Vodafone announced permanent reduction in calling rates yesterday.

“With the offer, the first 30 minutes of local or international calls made by customers from Qatar are free of charge. The promotion has been extended automatically to all customers,” Ooredoo said in a press release. The promotion is for both Hala and Shahry customers.

Vodafone, on the other hand, announced permanent reduction in its local calling rate to Dh25 per minute. “This new calling rate is the lowest in the history of Qatar,” Vodafone said.

The Hala customers of Ooredoo will receive an “End of call notification” after every local or international call during the promotion and they can also check their remaining balance by dialling *129*7#. Shahry customers will receive an SMS when they use 100 percent of their allowance.

Ooredoo is rolling out rebranded products and services over the next several months.

The home broadband network Qtel Fibre is now Ooredoo Fibre, and the mobile financial service Qtel Mobile Money is now Ooredoo Mobile Money. Nojoom members will continue to earn Nojoom Points.
