DOHA: MEED’s ‘Qatar Projects 2014’ conference will discuss upcoming mega project delivery challenges and solutions, including presentations on the country’s water reservoirs project and Al Karaana petrochemical complex, the largest green field project in Qatar, said a press statement yesterday.
The conference will be held from March 17 to 19 at Grand Hyatt under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada with support of Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
Qatar’s investments in projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors have seen a remarkable boost in the past six months, with new developments being announced and existing projects moving forward.
“Under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, momentum in Qatar’s projects market has seen an upswing with a range of developments announced.
“This includes over $13bn in petrochemical schemes planned, recent intensification in its upstream operations, extension of life of its mature oilfields, and infrastructure project opportunities associated with the $40bn worth of roads, ports and rail work; $19bn construction projects, and $3.2bn social infrastructure projects,” said the statement.
On the first day of the conference, Sheikh Abdulla Saoud Al Thani, Governor, Qatar Central Bank, will deliver the keynote address on latest developments and initiatives undertaken to achieve Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of Downstream Ventures, Qatar Petroleum, will share the organisation’s vision, including upstream, refining and transport and distribution plans and opportunities for international partners.
The conference features two tracks — Infrastructure & Transport Track and Energy and Utilities sector — to ensure sector-specific content and extended networking opportunities.
New tenders expected to be announced include Sharq Crossing and remaining contracts for the Expressway and IDRIS Programmes.
