Doha: The Omani Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, said the decision of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain to withdraw their ambassadors from Qatar is a minor disagreement over issues between brothers and will not affect the fundamental principles of the GCC states.
In an interview with Al Sharq, he stressed that the GCC countries are not weak and the progress of the bloc will not stop.
The decision of the three GCC states was just an expression of ire and discomfort due to some compelling circumstances.
The Arabian Peninsula bonds together GCC citizens from northern and souther regions due to their common heritage, he said.
“This ethnic bond makes it impossible and difficult for GCC ties to break”.
Abdullah reiterated that each state has its policies and visions within the framework of the common GCC goals.
There could be a difference in their visions, but it would not affect the strong bonds between these countries, he added.
The Minister said there is a shared responsibility to maintain GCC’s progressive march and this is part of the relationship between the member countries within the framework of their leaders’ visions.
GCC programmes are continuing as per plans. All committees are working in the same spirit, for instance, the Gulf Cup in the field of sports, Abdullah said.
“The GCC was founded and built on common ethos and integration between its peoples. We should further strengthen it and continue to promote common interests,” he added.
