ISLAMABAD: A number of people in Pakistan may hold an uncharitable opinion about Malala Yousafzai’s worldwide efforts to promote girls’ education but the government has decided to make use of money from a fund set up by her for an education project.
The young Malala — who shot to instant worldwide fame after Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants attacked and severely injured her in Swat in October 2012 for promoting the cause of girls’ education — has set up the Malala Fund to “empower girls to raise their voices, unlock their potential and demand change”.
In February, the ministry of finance signed an agreement with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation under which $7m from the Malala Fund would be spent on an education project focusing on remote areas of the country.
Pakistan to join naval exercise
ISLAMABAD: The Chinese Navy will be bringing Pakistani and Indian navies together as it celebrates its 65th founding anniversary when joint exercises take place at the Qingdao port, which will see Pakistani and Indian ships taking part.
“Pakistan will be participating in the International Fleet Review in China and this will practically be the first time that Pakistan and India will be participating in such an exercise together,” the spokesman for Pakistan Navy said. Pakistan and India come together every two years in Malaysia when international exercises are held.
