DOHA: A Qatari woman has filed cases against over half a dozen Egyptian journalists in the country’s courts for attacking Qatar and its people to malign friendly relations between people of the two countries, Al Sharq reported yesterday.
The accused who allegedly involved in maligning Qatar’s image using different media platforms include: Yasir Barakat, editor-in-chief of Al Mujez newspaper, Tawfeeq Okasha of Al Farain TV channel, Yousuf Al Hussaini of ONtv and Ahmed Moosa of Sada Al Balad TV channel. Other accused are Samiya Atiyah, Basma Al Masry, Amar Adeeb and Wael Al Abrashi.
“Through this initiative, I on behalf of Qatari people, want to deliver a message to the people of Egypt that these journalists are deliberately spreading misinformation, lies and are distorting facts about Qatar and its leadership to spoil the friendly and brotherly relations enjoyed by the people of the two countries,” the woman, Um Ali, was quoted as saying by Al Sharq.
“Qatar, over the years, has made great achievements, almost in every walk of life, including socio-economic and political fields at all levels, but these journalists, are constantly trying to tarnish Qatar’s image and spoil this strong and brotherly relationship to serve their vested interests,” she added. The woman has sought compensation from the accused for tarnishing Qatar’s image and insulting its people.
