DOHA: Qatar is reviewing criminal and penal laws in cooperation with the authorities concerned, HE Minister of Justice Dr Hassan bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi told Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of a session on the future of community legal awareness in crime prevention and criminal justice of the ongoing 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Doha.
HE Al Mohannadi added that these laws will be reviewed in collaboration with the ministry of interior, the public prosecutors and the judiciary along with the community to examine their appropriateness for the future as well as their role in crime reduction, and to develop a future vision to stop crimes before they occur.
The Qatari legal system aimed at achieving the security and justice for all society members, HE the Minister of Justice said, stressing that the State of Qatar has made great strides in the fight against cybercrime.
On electronic crimes, Dr Al Mohannadi stated that a center for the electronic security has been approved and will be launched soon and that e-security project is implemented, pointing out that the Ministry of Interior has a section devoted to combat cybercrime, and that the Ministry of Communications plays a major role in this context.
He said that a special law to combat cybercrime was issued recently, adding that cybercrime was one of the big challenges facing all countries, including Qatar.
The Ministry of Interior bears the greatest burden in the fight against crime, HE Al Mohannadi said, pointing to efforts initiated by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani to form a community police to confront cybercrimes and other forms of crimes.
HE the Minister of Justice also praised the role of the public prosecutor and the judicial system in achieving the desired justice. (QNA)
