DOHA: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani launched the Emergency Call Service (Aunek) presented by the Technical Affairs of National Command Centre (NCC) at the Ministry of Interior.
The service aims to provide assistance to the elderly, people with special needs and those with chronic diseases in emergency situations through the use of a special device equipped with high-tech features.
Through the service people who cannot use the emergency contact number (999) can use the device and data can be identified with location by the use of Najm service connected with NCC. The Technical Affairs explained that the centre is working through two systems. The first is voice communication system that ensures voice complaints reach Operation Room through 999. It is the first service of its kind in the region.
The second is Unified Geographical System (Najm) which receives complaints and directs them to the concerned agencies to take action directly.
Najm won the best developed system during the Middle East Forum in 2012 and won the Geographical Data and Excellence Award from American Systems Research Institute in 2013.
