Los Angeles--A shallow 3.5-magnitude earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area on Sunday, causing panic but no initial reports of damage or injuries.
The quake hit at 9:17 pm (0417 GMT Monday) at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles), the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
Its epicentre was only a kilometre from the View Park-Windsor Hills neighbourhood, which is just outside the city, USGS said.
Los Angeles Fire Department activated its emergency earthquake mode, saying on Twitter: "Fire-fighters assessing response area. No damage reported at this time."
The quake was trending on Twitter, with many users saying their homes shuddered but others not even feeling it.
