New York: The UN Security Council decided to hold an emergency meeting tomorrow, Friday, to discuss the rapid developments in the occupied territories and the increase in confrontations between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

And to this meeting, which is the third of its kind in the last four days, Tunisia, Norway and China, members of the UN Security Council, were invited to discuss the conflict in the Middle East, despite the reservations of the United States about the role of the United Nations in restoring calm to the region.

Diplomats stated, in statements, that the deliberations of this meeting will be public, in contrast to the two previous closed meetings that were held on Monday and Wednesday, during which Washington opposed the Security Council adopting a joint declaration calling for an end to the clashes, considering that it would "backfire" at this stage.

In addition, Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, said, in a letter addressed to senior officials of the international organization, that "the international community, especially the UN Security Council, must move without delay to demand that Israel stop its attacks on the Palestinian civilian population and stop its plans for forced displacement and cleansing." Yesterday, the United States rejected a proposal by Tunisia, Norway and China to adopt a declaration calling for "a cessation of escalation, restraint, a ceasefire and a resumption of negotiations."
