KARACHI: After the arrival of illegal expatriates from 13 more countries, Pakistan is housing illegals from 201 countries, including France, Switzerland, Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon, West Indies and Germany. National Aliens Registration Authority (Nara) Director General Aftab Alam says unregistered expatriates are a threat to national security and the government will not tolerate the black sheep in Nara. According to officials, secret agencies have checked their records many times to catch illegal expats involved in terror activities. Many of them are living in Pakistan with their families.
Gates offers help on health
ISLAMABAD: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has offered financial and technical assistance to the new government of Pakistan in the health sector. Special Representative of Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Dr Waqar Ajmal, called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and delivered a letter from Gates, congratulating him on his election, officials said yesterday. Gates expressed confidence that the new government would focus on immunisation and eradication of fatal diseases, including polio.
Talks with rebels ‘vital’
London: The Commander of International Forces in Afghanistan General Joseph Dunford said that talks with the Taliban were essential. Speaking to the BBC, he said that without continued foreign support to the Afghan Army, citizens’ basic rights were in no way guaranteed. Dunford is the last commander of the Nato International Security Assistance Force and is expected to remain in the post until the end of next year, when combat troops are scheduled to leave.
Agencies
