Doha: The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) is accepting project applications for the World Summit Award (WSA) 2013 in eight different categories of digital content and innovative ICT applications.

Reem Al Mansoori, Executive Director, ICT & Society Division, ictQATAR, is spearheading the nomination process for Qatar.

“It is important that we recognise, promote, and encourage the works of people who are the catalysts for this progression. If you or someone you know has created engaging digital content or an original application, we encourage you to share this information with us so they can be nominated for the prestigious 2013 World Summit Award,” Reem Al Mansoori said.

The WSA is an annual global contest supported by national selections of best practice and a sequence of content-focused national and international events, content conferences, and promotional exhibitions.

The contest is open to any company, organisation or individual in the content industry in any UN member state.

There is no limitation regarding the platforms or channels the projects work with but all entries have to be real products. No drafts, demonstrations or unfinished projects can be submitted.

Evaluation is based on the concept of excellence in content and creativity and includes innovation in terms of applications. The WSA is a content-focused award and does not evaluate the commercial success or the organisational implementation and use of products.

After the national pre-selection period, a jury of eminent experts will come together in Tallinn, Estonia to evaluate the submissions and select the 40 best products from hundreds of national nominations.

The 40 WSA winners will get the chance to present their products at the WSA World Congress in Sri Lanka.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their entry to ictQatar via email at wsa@ict.gov.qa to be considered for nomination.

All suggested nominations must be received by June 26, 2013 to be included. For more information and submission criteria visit http://wsis-award.org/ or ictQatar website www.ictQatar.qa.
