Doha: Aiming for a successful title defence in the forthcoming season, the Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Al Rayyan kicked off their training for the new season at the new training grounds for the club, yesterday.
The team focused on physical training as the trainer subjected the players to a set of special exercises to raise the physical fitness to prepare them for the new season.
It is expected that the team will continue training at this stage on a daily and coach Jorge Fossati will lead the first training session on the 16th of July. The team leaves for their foreign training camp in the city of Valencia, Spain on July 28 and will stay there until August 21. Qatar’s football giants Al Rayyan displayed an outstanding performance to win the last QSL edition dethroning Lekhwiya.
It was a dream comeback for Al Rayyan which missed the 2014 edition of league due to relegation.
Lekhwiya off for Austria
Meanwhile, Lekhwiya, who finished fourth in the last QSL edition will leave for Austria today to begin their European camp and continue training and preparation for the new season which will kick off on September 12.
The team will meet Al Rayyan for the season opener Sheikh Jassim Cup. After that they will return to QSL action which will begin on September 15 September.
Lekhwiya’s first football team begun its preparations on Sunday at Abdullah Bin Khalifa stadium with the attendance of most of the first team stars.
The team performed physical trainings to regain the player’s fitness after the period of rest they had in the recent weeks. .
Lekhwiya will play friendly games against Konyaspor Turkish team on July 18, and Eibar Spanish team on July 29 during the team camp in Austria.
Al Shahaniya’s foreign players arrive
Al Shahaniya’s foreign players arrived in Doha yesterday to start training with their new outfit.
These players include Algerian duo Mohammad Khalid Al Korma and Mohammed Tiyabah besides Spaniard Alvaro Makhuyl.
The team’s training is led by their new Tunisian coach Fathi Jabal.
Besides supervising the training camp, Al Shahaniya coach held a meeting with the President of the club to find out the needs of the team before travelling to the foreign camp, which will be held in Germany.
At the same time the club’s management is seeking a group of local players to strengthen the team in order to complete their team setup ahead of the 2016-2017 season.
