Sydney, Australia: A teenage boy has been arrested over an alleged stabbing at a school in northeast Australia on Monday.

Police in the state of Queensland were called to reports that a 15-year-old had been stabbed in the abdomen at a school in the city of Cairns, over 1,300 km north of the state capital of Brisbane, shortly before midday on Monday.

He was taken to a hospital in a stable condition.

A second boy, also aged 15, left the area on foot and was arrested by police officers nearby around 30 minutes later.

Police said that the arrested boy was helping with inquiries and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
